ห้องแห่งแรงบันดาลใจ…ปรีดี พนมยงค์ 

            นายปรีดี พนมยงค์ คือสามัญชนผู้ทำประโยชน์ให้แก่บ้านเมืองมากมาย จนได้รับการยกย่องจากองค์การการศึกษาวิทยาศาสตร์และวัฒนธรรมแห่งสหประชาชาติหรือยูเนสโก (UNESCO) ให้เป็นบุคคลสำคัญของโลกเมื่อปี พ.ศ. ๒๕๔๓ แม้กาลเวลาผ่านไปนานเท่าไร แต่คุณูปการที่ท่านทำยังคงคุณค่า ดังนั้นในโอกาสครบรอบ ๑๑๐ ปี ชาตกาลนายปรีดี พนมยงค์ (พ.ศ. ๒๕๕๓) สถาบันปรีดี พนมยงค์ จึงดำเนินการจัดสร้างห้องแห่งแรงบันดาลใจ  ปรีดี  พนมยงค์  ขึ้นเพื่อเผยแพร่เรื่องราวของนายปรีดีให้เยาวชนและสาธารณชนได้ศึกษาเรียนรู้และเกิดแรงบันดาลใจในการดำเนินชีวิต 

            นิทรรศการนี้สร้างจากแนวความคิดที่ว่ามนุษย์จะประสบความสำเร็จได้ต้องมีเป้าหมายในชีวิต และการที่จะไปให้ถึงเป้าหมายนั้นได้ก็ต้องมีจิตใจที่มุ่งมั่น หนักแน่น และมั่นคง ดังเช่นชีวิตของนายปรีดีที่ได้ตั้งเป้าหมายอันยิ่งใหญ่ว่าต้อง “บำรุงความสุขสมบูรณ์ของราษฎร” ซึ่งกว่าท่านจะบรรลุเป้าหมายได้ก็ต้องมุ่งมั่นกระทำการใหญ่หลายประการ เริ่มจากเปลี่ยนแปลงการปกครอง จากนั้นก็สร้างและดำเนินนโยบายทั้งทางการเมือง เศรษฐกิจ และสังคม 

            สำหรับการออกแบบนิทรรศการนี้ได้นำแนวความคิดและประวัติชีวิตของนายปรีดี  พนมยงค์มาตีความแล้วนำเสนอออกมาในรูปแบบของเส้นทางเดินที่มองเห็นปลายทางชัดเจน แต่ไม่สามารถเดินตรงไปได้ หากต้องเลาะเลี้ยวไปมาหรือมากกว่าจะถึงปลายทาง เปรียบเหมือนนายปรีดีที่มองเห็นเป้าหมายในชีวิต แต่กว่าจะไปถึงได้ก็ต้องก้าวผ่านด่านทดสอบต่างๆ ที่มีทั้งอุปสรรคและสิ่งล่อลวงจิตใจ

มาร่วมศึกษาและเก็บเกี่ยวแบบอย่างชีวิตของบุคคลผู้มีเป้าหมายที่เปี่ยมไปด้วยความมุ่งมั่น หนักแน่น และมั่นคง ที่สำคัญเป้าหมายนั้นไม่ได้เป็นไปเพื่อตัวเอง แต่เพื่อความสุขสมบูรณ์ของผู้คนส่วนใหญ่  ชาติและราษฎรไทย 

Inspiration Zone … Pridi Banomyong

Pridi Banomyong, a commoner whose great accomplishments have benefited the country, was named one of the world great personalities of the century by  United  Nations  Educational  Scientific  and  Cultural  Organization  (UNESCO)  in 2000.  No matter how many years have passed, his great deeds still deserve praise.  Thus, to commemorate his 110th birthday anniversary (in 2010), the Pridi Banomyong Institute organizes this exhibition to publicize his story so that youth and the public at large will be able to study and get inspired as to how one should lead his/her life.

The exhibition derives from the concept that human beings must set an objective in their life if they are to attain success and, to achieve that, they must be firmly determined and unyielding.  Pridi’s own life is a good example.  His ultimate goal was to ‘nurture the people’s happiness to the full’.  Before he could attain it, he had to resolutely venture upon a great many large-scale, significant missions, starting with the revolution all the way to the initiation and implementation of various political, economic and social schemes.

The exhibition has been designed as an interpretation of Pridi Banomyong’s concept and biography and is presented as a path, albeit a meandering one, with a clear vision of the destination.  A lot of bends and turns have to be overcome before the path ends, which is comparable to Pridi’s life in that he could see the goal but had to undergo a variety of tests full of obstacles and illusions before he could finally reach it. 

Let’s explore and learn from the life and work of the person who set his life’s objective with strong determination and resoluteness.  It is important to note that his objective was clean of self-interest; rather, it was meant for the utmost happiness of the majority of people.

นิทรรศการแบ่งออกเป็น ๙ พื้นที่ ดังนี้ 

๑. บุคคลสำคัญของโลก

เปิดเรื่องด้วยความยิ่งใหญ่ที่ประกันถึงการทำประโยชน์เพื่อประเทศชาติของนายปรีดี พนมยงค์ คือการได้รับการยกย่องจากยูเนสโกว่าเป็น “บุคคลสำคัญของโลก” ...แต่น่าแปลกใจ ทำไมคนไทยทุกวันนี้จึงรู้จักท่านน้อยนัก? 

The exhibition is divided into 9 zones, as follows:

1.                A World Great Personality

The exhibition starts with Pridi Banomyong as a great personality – a testimony to his numerous meritorious deeds for the country, for which he was named “one of the world great personalities of the century” by UNESCO.  It is surprising why Thai people today know so little about him.

๒. ชีวิตเมื่อร้อยปีก่อน

            สะท้อนชีวิตสังคมชาวนาไทยเมื่อร้อยปีก่อน ในเวลานั้นข้าวคือสินค้าส่งออกสำคัญ การทำนาจึงเป็นอาชีพหลักของคนไทยส่วนใหญ่ ชาวนาเปรียบเหมือนกระดูกสันหลังของชาติ แต่ความไม่เท่าเทียมภายใต้ระบอบสมบูรณาญาสิทธิราชย์ ทำให้ชาวนาต้องพบแต่ความยากลำบากที่ไม่สิ้นสุด 

2.  The Way It Was a Century Ago

This part of the exhibition depicts social life of Thai farmers a century ago.  Rice was the country’s predominant export then.  Rice farming thus became main occupation of the majority of Thai people.  Although rice farmers were regarded as the national backbone, inequality prevailed under the absolute monarchy and caused them endless hardships.

๓. เมื่อวัยเยาว์

            เมื่อร้อยปีก่อน เรื่องราวของนายปรีดีได้เริ่มต้นขึ้น ท่านเติบโตในครอบครัวชาวนา การหล่อหลอมจากพ่อและครูหัวก้าวหน้า รวมทั้งได้ใช้ชีวิตชาวนาอย่างเต็มตัว ทำให้เด็กชายปรีดีมีความคิดความสนใจแตกต่างจากเด็กในชนบททั่วไป เขาเริ่มมองเห็นทางออกของปัญหาสังคมไทยที่สั่งสมมายาวนาน

3.   Childhood

Pridi’s story begins with his birth a century ago.  Growing up in a family of rice farmers, Pridi was influenced by his father and later by unconventional teachers.  Leading a full-fledged farmer’s life made young Pridi’s thoughts and interest different from those of other rural children.  He began to perceive the solution to long- accumulated social problems of Thailand.

๔. นักเรียนกฎหมาย 

            ชีวิต ๒ ปีในโรงเรียนกฎหมายทำให้นายปรีดีเกิดความตั้งใจอย่างแน่วแน่ที่จะทำอะไรบางอย่างเพื่อเปลี่ยนแปลงประเทศให้ก้าวหน้าขึ้น ในช่วงนี้ท่านยังได้พิสูจน์ความเก่งและความกล้าในฐานะทนายหน้าใหม่รับว่าความคดี “เรือโป๊ะชนพลับพลา” 

4.  Law Student

Two years of study at a law school inspired Pridi to a firm resolution that something had got to be done so as to bring about change and progress to the country.  It was during this stage in life that he, as a novice lawyer, dared to conduct and won an extremely tough case that his brilliance and courage became vivid to his peers.

๕. นักเรียนทุนฝรั่งเศส

            ฝรั่งเศสคือดินแดนอันอุดมด้วยบรรยากาศประชาธิปไตย ช่วงเวลา ๗ ปีที่นายปรีดีได้ร่ำเรียน ณ เมืองนี้จึงเป็นเวลาของการบ่มเพาะและฝึกฝนความคิดทางการเมืองอย่างแท้จริง นอกจากนี้ท่านยังปลุกจิตสำนึกประชาธิปไตยให้แก่นักเรียนไทยในฝรั่งเศส อังกฤษและยุโรปด้วย และที่สุดก็ได้ร่วมกับพวกพ้องก่อตั้ง “คณะราษฎร” เพื่อเปลี่ยนแปลงประเทศไทยเป็นระบอบประชาธิปไตย อันมีพระมหากษัตริย์ทรงเป็นประมุขอยู่ภายใต้รัฐธรรมนูญ

5.  Recipient of a Scholarship to Study in France

Democracy filled the air in France at the time.  Thus, the span of seven years of Pridi’s study there was truly the period of maturing process and exercising as far as political ideology was concerned.  Furthermore, he managed to launch a campaign to arouse the democratic awareness among Thai students in France, Britain and other European countries as well.  In the end, he collaborated with friends and colleagues in founding “The People’s Party”, or Khana Rasadon in Thai, with the objective to transform Thailand into a democratic country.

๖. ชีวิตในเมืองไทย 

            เมื่อกลับเมืองไทย ชีวิตของนายปรีดีเป็นเหมือนเหรียญ ๒ ด้าน ด้านหนึ่งเป็นหนุ่มนักเรียนนอกผู้ประสบความสำเร็จทั้งการงานและครอบครัว อีกด้านหนึ่งที่ซ่อนเร้นอยู่ในเงามืดคือการเป็นแกนนำคณะราษฎร เตรียมการเปลี่ยนแปลงการปกครองแผ่นดินด้วยแผนการอันเฉียบคมนั่นคือ “การยึดอำนาจโดยฉับพลันโดยไม่ให้เสียเลือดเนื้อ” 

6.   Life in Thailand

Back in Thailand, Pridi’s life was like two sides of a coin: on one side he was a Western-educated scholar who attained success both in terms of work and personal life while, on the other, concealed in the shadow, he was active as one of the conspirators behind the People’s Party secretly paving the way for the change in regime through the strategic plan to “conduct a sudden, bloodless coup”.

๗. ๕ วัน แห่งการอภิวัฒน์สยาม

            ฉายภาพเหตุการณ์ยึดอำนาจที่เกิดขึ้นในช่วงเวลา ๕ วัน (๒๔-๒๘ มิถุนายน พ.ศ. ๒๔๗๕) ซึ่งสำเร็จได้โดยไม่มีการเสียเลือดเนื้อ แน่นอนว่าความสำเร็จครั้งนี้เกิดจากนายปรีดี ผู้เป็นมันสมองสำคัญของคณะราษฎร ส่วนความมุ่งมั่นที่จะทำให้ชีวิตคนไทยดีขึ้นก็ชี้ชัดในแถลงการณ์ประกาศคณะราษฎรฉบับที่ ๑

7.   The Five-day Siamese Revolution

Illustrations of the five-day coup (24-28 June, 1932) in which bloodshed was avoided.  The successful coup could not have been realized without Pridi, the brains of the People’s Party.  The determination to enhance Thai people’s livelihood was clearly emphasized in the Party’s Communiqué No. 1.

๘. สู่เป้าหมายที่แท้จริง 

            ช่วง ๑๕ ปี (พ.ศ. ๒๔๗๕-๒๔๙๐) ที่นายปรีดีดำรงตำแหน่งทางการเมือง คำมั่นสัญญา ๖ ประการ ที่ให้ไว้ในประกาศคณะราษฎรก็ได้ปรากฏออกมาเป็นผลงานต่างๆ มากมาย หลายเรื่องส่งผลมาถึงปัจจุบัน แต่ที่น่าทึ่งคือนโยบายบางเรื่องที่เพิ่งประกาศใช้ในปัจจุบันนั้น นายปรีดีคิดได้มาเกือบ ๘๐ ปีแล้ว

8.  Toward the Real Objective

During a time span of 15 years (1932-1947) when Pridi held several political positions, the six-point promise given in the People’s Party communiqué was concretely materialized in the form of numerous accomplishments, many of which are still in effect today.  It is quite astonishing, though, that a certain number of policies and schemes recently launched had already been perceived by Pridi nearly eight decades ago.

๙. ทบทวนความคิด 

            ถ้อยคำสำคัญของนายปรีดีที่จัดแสดงในห้องสุดท้ายแสดงให้เห็นเจตจำนงค์อันยิ่งใหญ่ของท่านได้อย่างชัดเจน ขณะเดียวกันถ้อยคำสั้นๆ นี้ยังเป็นเหมือนกระจกสะท้อนใจเราให้กลับมาทบทวนตัวเองว่า เป้าหมายในชีวิตเราคืออะไร แล้วเป้าหมายนั้นแค่เพื่อตัวเองหรือเพื่อคนอื่น

9.  Re-examining the Objective of Our Life

Renowned mottos by Pridi under exhibition in this last zone distinctly reflect his great objective while serving as a mirror for all of us to go over our own and ask ourselves what our objective is and whether it has been derived out of self-interest or for the interest of others.
